The last day was more relaxed which was nice. We went to Splashlight. Their equipment house was similar to to the cage. I imagine most are like that. It was cool to see. We saw some ecommerce shoots going on which were very bleak to watch. It didn't strike me as the most thrilling work. Lexi showed Sam and I the retouching area which I was happy to see. She also told me about getting work which as a retoucher which was nice.
NYC Trip - Day Four
We went to a bar for a networking party. I spoke to Levi Brown and Maegan Gindi. We got some pizza and talked about liscensing and what sort of work was out there for retouchers. The party was fun. I usually wouldn't go to that sort of thing but I had a good time and met a lot of good people.
NYC Trip - Day Three
Our first meeting of the day was with DCOY. It solidified that I really want to do retouching. The place was awesome, and seemed like a lot of fun to work with. Talking with people there also encouraged me to start learning some 3D modeling software so I can incorporate some of that into my work.
NYC Trip - Day Two
We went to Steve Giralt's Studio to for a party/portfolio review. Everyone told their stories and how they got their start in the industry. I showed my portfolio to a good number of people. Most people supportive of my work. I spoke to Steve about being a retoucher and he showed me some before and afters of some high end retouching work which really helped me put in perspective what it really expected from high end retouchers.
NYC Trip - Day One
Our first meeting was with Anomaly, We met with a couple of people from the company. They spoke about how the hierarchy of the company worked along with what steps of the creative process they were involved in. They also spoke about the different types of content they make, such as cinemagraphs and content for Instagram.
We also went to Chad Griffiths studio. While there I talked to Sam Morrison who is really successful on Instagram. It was great to hear how he got to where he was through Instagram.
